What is on Frank's Pocket PC?
Last updated: 05/13/2001
A very good question, I am glad you asked. On this page
I am going to catalog the software that I use every day on my Pocket PC. These
aren't programs that I am just reviewing, rather these are the programs that I
consider to be so important they must be on any Pocket PC that I use.
- Ilium
Software's eWallet: I have tons of bits of information such as passwords
to web sites, or serial numbers that I need to keep track of. Next to Pocket
Outlook, Inbox, Pocket Internet Explorer, and Pocket Word, eWallet is
probably the most used program on my device. It's easy to use, can be set up
to password protect the information, and provides encryption.
- WebIs' Pocket
Informant: Pocket Informant is becoming a fantastic alternative to
Pocket Outlook. I have this programmed to the recorder button on my iPAQ for
quick access. I really like it's agenda and week views, and it's ability to
link items together. Overall performance is a little slow, but the developer
is constantly making improvements. If you are new to Pocket PCs having used
a Palm and are familiar with ActionNames then you know what Pocket Informant
is like.
- Ilium
Software's ListPro: ListPro is a great general purpose list program. It
is the closest thing to an outliner for Pocket PCs, and I use it for
rudimentary project management.
- Cambridge
Computer Corp.'s vxUtil: If you network your Pocket PC in any way stop
right now and download this free utility. It only gives you important
troubleshooting tools like the ability to determine what IP address is
assigned to your device, or to ping other devices on the network.
- DDH Software's
HanDBase: I don't know about your Pocket PC, but mine didn't come with a
database. HanDBase is the type of database program that should come with all
Pocket PCs. You can create databases right on your Pocket PC, or you can use
the desktop software to create a database on your PC. Each database consists
of a table, and you can link databases to create applications. One of the
best things about this program is the database
gallery hosted by DDH Software that contains hundreds of databases that
you can download and use. I use one of those databases, called Assignments,
to keep track of projects that my team is working on at the office.
- Conduit's
Technologies' Peacemaker: If you own a HP Jornada Pocket PC then you
already have the basic version of this program installed in ROM. With this
program you can infrared beam appointments, tasks, contacts, and notes from
a Pocket PC to Palm OS devices. It also enables you to beam information from
a Pocket PC to other devices, like the C-Pen scanner, that is capable of
beaming information with Palm OS devices.
