Just from reading Steve's weblog on a regular basis, I expect his book on Pocket PC network programming to be good. It's well worth checking out for those of you who are into the Pocket PC programming thing.

T-Mobile does it right. The external speaker on my T-Mobile Pocket PC died on Tuesday. The only way I can hear any sound on it is through the headset, which is not good for a phone that needs to be heard. So I called T-Mobile, explained the problem, and without any hassles they agreed to replace my unit. The brand-new replacement showed up at my door this morning. I put my broken Pocket PC in the box and ship it back to them, and I go on my merry way. Now, this is the way all Pocket PC manufacturers should live up to their warranty. Unfortunately, they don't. In the past I've had to return iPAQs to Compaq to be without them for days while they are being repaired. Fortunately, I have access to several devices so I can find ways to get by, but most people are not in my position.

Anyway, this is the type of stuff that is keeping me loyal to T-Mobile, even though I find the speed of Sprint and Verizon's 1XRTT network appealing, not to mention those cool Samsung Pocket PCs.

Sybase is releasing a beta of Pocket PowerBuilder. In my past I had some exposure to PowerBuilder, so I find it interesting to learn that the development environment is expanding to include Pocket PCs.

I've seen a couple of announcements from GPS vendors regarding the availability of real time traffic information with their products. They require an Internet connection, so these products are optimized for Pocket PC Phone Edition. Thus I now have a real reason to use my Traveroute GPS with my T-Mobile Pocket PC. So far I have seen announcements from Travroute and Mapopolis.

T-Mobile has signed up Kinkos to be a T-Mobile Hotspot. What is interesting about this is that Kinkos already provides Internet access for a fee, so I am wondering how much money Kinkos will make from this. No doubt the WiFI roll-out costs are cheaper than Starbucks because I would image the majority of Kinkos already have Internet access. It won't be available until the 4th quarter of this year. I just wish they would hurry up and get the Starbucks near my house turned on.

I've called T-Mobile and they are swapping out my broken Pocket PC with another device. The box should show up tomorrow. In the mean time I have switched by to my Ericsson T39 and I am checking out Phone King. I can see how Phone King could work if I had a Bluetooth headset.

I've definitely got some bad computing karma working for me. First I the mother board on my Dell Inspiron notebook went. Then my Linksys wireless access point died. Last night I installed the 10.2.5 update of Mac OS X on my 12 inch PowerBook and that went bad and required a reinstall of the operating system. Now the external speaker on my T-Mobile Pocket PC has quit working. Yesterday I used the headset with the phone. Now the only way I can hear sound is through the headset. This happened to me once before when I tried using a Jabra headset and I fixed the problem by plugging in the headset and doing a soft reset. Thus far I have tried that several times with several different headsets with no luck. I just did a hard reset and still the problem isn't fixed, thus is must be some type of hardware problem, so it is time to call T-Mobile.

Wow, this little printer from Brother is cute. I've never been one to need a printer to go with my Pocket PCs, but the Brother m-print micro printer is appealing. It has an infrared port, but it would have been even cooler if it had Bluetooth. Pocket PC software is included. I wonder when it will sell in the U.S. and how much it will cost.
