The Nando Times: Police getting a hand-held on fighting crime "ImageWare's digital booking database software - which allows officers to access digital booking databases on a secure intranet - starts at around $30,000 to $40,000, depending on the number of officers using the system. PDA licensing fees are several hundred dollars per hand-held. The PDAs, which must run the Pocket PC operating system, and wireless fees cost extra."

I hope this is a coincidence. Yesterday Voicestream officially started selling the Pocket PC Phone edition. Yesterday and today I have been having difficulty getting connected to the Internet using Voicestream. Their GPRS network keeps going down and that's not good.

PCWorld.com - First Look at Pocket PC Phone Edition This is one of the first reviews that I have seen for the U.S. version of the Pocket PC Phone edition. Be careful about the comments regarding U.S. and European usage. My understanding is that Voicestream's literature is misleading and that it isn't truly dual-band and that it only works with the GSM frequencies that are in the U.S. A very few areas in Europe support that frequency, which allows the claim that it works in Europe.

Ok, we now know the pricing for the Voicestream Pocket PC Phone.. $549/$499 with rebate. Pretty much the price for a full Pocket PC. The rebate is a simply $50 mail-in rebate after you purchase the phone. I'll try to make some trips to the local Voicestream stores this weekend and see if they have any of these in stock. What do you think of the price?

Acer sub wins $299 Dell PDA order Found this on Pocket PC Thoughts. It will be nice to see some real price competition in the Pocket PC space, and it is very interesting to see that Dell thinks that the PDA and Pocket PC market is viable. While I think the Dell deal is good news for consumers, I'm not so sure this is a good idea for Dell. The only thing that I can think is that they see Pocket PC sales going up and that they aren't making enough on their current reseller agreements with Palm and other Pocket PC oems.

How to create a Windows XP VPN Server. Why would you want to do this? Well, the best way to secure a wireless LAN is to use VPN, which encrypts communication between the client (in our case a Pocket PC) and the VPN server.

To secure your wireless communications to a LAN would need build a Windows XP (or 2000) server with two network interface cards. Connect one of the network interface cards to a wireless access point, which will provide the communications link between the wireless clients and the wired LAN. Connect the other network interface card to the hub or switch on your wired LAN. Then set up the VPN software as described in this link, and configure your Pocket PC to use VPN by modifying the Work Settings and tapping New on VPN tab.
