Software & Drivers - Download iPAQ Pocket PC 2002 Update 1 (EUU1) Word at Pocket PC Thoughts is that this link is actually to EUU2 from Microsoft though the doco on the site refers to it as EEU1. This amounts to the second service pack for Pocket PCs, which again will be released only through OEMs and not directly by Microsoft. Compaq is the first to make it available for download.

If you own an iPAQ 3870 like I do, this is not the same thing as the ROM update that Compaq released on Jun 24. That ROM update includes EUU1, along with several fixes from Compaq. I have not applied to my iPAQ 3870 yet, so what I will now have to do is apply this ROM update, and then EUU2.

In a way this will be one step forward, two steps backward. The ROM update from Compaq will free up RAM because it moves EUU1 from RAM to ROM. But once I apply EUU2 I will lose the RAM.

I am planning on at least applying the ROM update this weekend. I probably won't get to that today because I am going to a wedding. The whole process requires a hard reset, so I have been wanting to audit my iPAQ 3870 to determine what I need to load back on it after I apply all these updates. The one thing I know that I cannot do is restore a backup.

Microsoft to ship smart-phone software 'any day now' Very interesting news in this article. Check the last paragraph. It implies a significant release of Pocket PC software in 1st quarter 2003 based on a different version of Windows CE. Dare we say CE .NET?

Brighthand Forums - File Store Dissappeared? SOLUTION HERE! I originally found out about this on Pocket PC Thoughts. This thread contains a patch that restores missing file stores on iPAQ Pocket PCs.

IzyMail - Download and synchronize Hotmail with eMail Pocket PC Thoughts links to this email software, which suggests that it works with Pocket PCs. While this web page does say that it works with Pocket PCs, I have not found clear information on how exactly it works. Is this a true plug-in for Inbox, or just a synchronization conduit?

Pop3Hot provides the ability to synchronize MSN and Hotmail to Pocket PCs. There is also a beta for synchronizing Yahoo mail with Pocket PCs. Note that this only synchronizes email, it is not an email client.
