ZDNet: Story: End of the road for the unconnected handheld? This supports Microsoft's thinking in regards to Pocket PC Phone Edition. Basically, Microsoft is targetting the connected handheld market and feel that Pocket PC Phone Edition is the best product for that. They are content to leaving the disconnected organizer market to Palm.

No, as an aside, yesterday I received a Sony/Ericsson T39M. This is a wonder little phone with built-in Bluetooth. During the day today I used the T39M with my iPAQ 3870 to retrieve email while the phone was in my pocket. I've been using a Sierra Aircard 300 to retrieve email, and while the GSM data speeds I am using are equal to or slower than the 19.2 CDPD connection the Aircard provides, I don't have to use the bulky PC Card sleeve to connect to the net with the T39. This is all possible thanks to the built-in Bluetooth wireless radio in the 3870.

This is why I am seriously considering buying a E740. With Bluetooth I'll be able to get wireless to the net when I am away from my home, and I can do that with my Socket Bluetooth card. With the built-in 802.11b radio I can connect to the net while I am at home. In short, a completely wireless connected device, with no bulky sleeves and still have a SD slot for storage. It sounds like the perfect device even if the X-Scale processing performance isn't up to par.

Teachers Wanna Hold a Handheld It's a shame that Pocket PC is not even in the discussion on this. Got to get the costs down.

Loox.org - All about the Pocket LOOX I sit corrected... apparently the Pocket LOOX will ship in the United States. Apparently at the end of July.

After next week there will be two shipping Pocket PCs running the XScale PX250 processor, which is being bashed for not providing performance improvements. Something doesn't feel right about these manufacturers coming out with devices using chips that are supposed to run faster, but don't. Only time will tell regarding how this will affect the Pocket PC market.

OTOH, this might very well mean that SA-based Pocket PCs will drop in price, and this later comment may actually be the most important news relating to the latest product announcements from Toshiba, HP, and Fujitisu/Siemens.

Yahoo! News - Report: Dell eyes MS-platform handhelds An entry by Dell into the Pocket PC market might be good news for consumers since they will probably drive prices down. What could be interesting is if Dell is talking with HTC, who is probably the top Pocket PC designer.

pocketPCpassion - review - e740 Dale has reviewed the e740, and I think that despite some of its shortcomings, it is a compelling device. In fact, I might very well go out and buy one. More than likely XScale improvements will come, and I think the built in WLAN (most WLAN cards cost $100 or less, so without that alone price drops to $499) dual slots, 64 MB of RAM, and removable battery justify the price, even if Toshiba had just used a 206 Mhz StrongARM processor.
