Forbes has a positive take on the Audiovox Thera, even with it's $800 price tag. I still think that price is too high!

If you are a would-be Pocket PC theme creator, check out Web McDeb for good examples of how to create themes. Please note how she insures that the text on the today screen and start menu are readable.

It's a beta so Pocket Blog is still a bit rough around the edges. Performance should improve and the hyperlink button is important . Other features that I would like to see are an HTML menu for inserting other tags like lists and blockquote. I would also like a more intuitive way to manually post an entry other than disconnecting. Right now to refresh the list of Blogger entries on my Pocket PC, and to post an entry that I just made (without waiting for Pocket Blog to do it automatically) you tap Configure, Down Connection.

That is so cool. I entered that last post offline. Then I connected my IPAQ 3870 to my notebook using Bluetooth and started Pocket Blog. Pocket Blog detected that I was connected and automatically posted the entry, using ActiveSync passthru and Bluetooth. So, I should be able to write entries on my Pocket PC and then synchronize them to my blog.

OK. That first entry was made while I was online. This one is being entered while I am offline. Lets see how well this syncs up to the server.

Common Bryce, enough of the freaking teasing and release already! :)
Then again... Blogger has just released their mail to weblog feature for "pro" users.

ZDNet: Sharp Zaurus SL-5500 Review ZDNet calls the SL-5500 a Pocket PC competitor, but not a Pocket PC killer. I would agree with that assessment. I've had the SL-5500 for a couple of weeks now, and I would say that the biggest benefit that I have got out of it is a deeper appreciation for the amount of work Microsoft put into the Pocket PC.
It is clear that SL-5500 software developers are making their programs look like Pocket PC software, but they lack polish. For example, Hancom Word, which is the SL-5500 equivalent to Pocket Word, has word count but not spell check. The SL-5500 address book does not have tab indexes to make it easy to quickly find an address, instead you either have to scroll or tap Options, Find.

Holy lacking features. I just discovered that nPOP does provide a way to forward e-mail. I guess I can reply and change the email address, but how could something as basic as forward be overlooked?

Playing with Theme Master means that I am seeing a lot more Pocket PC themes, and I am finding myself disappointed. People who develop themes need to make them light enough so that you can actually read the text on the start menu and the Today screen. Black text on a dark background is not good.

PC World has released their latest review of PDAs in the April edition of the magazine. There are a few nits that I have with this article. First, they classify the majority of the Palm OS Handhelds in a Basic PDA category, which is appropriate.
Pocket PC's are classified in an Advanced PDAs category that also includes the Handspring Visor Prism and the Palm M505. They classify the Casio E-200 as a Best Buy, even though the E-200 has more bugs than other Pocket PCs. My personal best buy, the Jornada 568 is not even considered in the ranking. (PC World does include the 565). They do include the Toshiba E570, which cannot be purchased by consumers (the Audiovox Maestro is excluded) and state that the E570's two hour battery lie is typical for Pocket PC devices. The E570's battery life is not typical, and is generally known for having the worst battery life of all the Pocket PCs.

I haven't been able to track this down yet, but I seem to be experiencing some interference between Bluetooth and HomeRF. My wife has been reporting problems with the network connection on her PC, which is provided by HomeRF, ever since I started playing with Bluetooth on Saturday. I'm running an 802.11b connection out of the same notebook PC that is running Bluetooth, so those two seem to be happy. If the HomeRF doesn't want to play I may just go and get a Linksys USB adapter for my wife's PC and scrap the Proxim Symphony stuff all together.

Expand Beyond : Pocket DataDictionary If you are an Oracle DBA you might want to download this free content. It is basically a simple Visual Basic app that loads a web page in Pocket Internet Explorer. That web page is a front end to an Oracle system data dictionary, which for example shows you all the column names for V$ARCHIVED_LOG(V8).

Theme Master is now available for download, and can be bought from Handango for $6.95. Theme Master is a Pocket PC 2002 theme manager that will automatically change themes at pre-set intervals. It searches for theme files in three locations: \windows, \my documents and a user-defined path. The last option allows you to store theme files in any folder on a storage card, as well as supporting renamed storage card folders. I have tested this app on an iPAQ 3870 and a Toshiba e570 and it works fine on both.
Theme Master also runs on Pocket PC 2000 devices, but since PPC 2000 does not have Today screen themes, you need to Novosec Pocket Facelift, which supports Pocket PC 2002 themes on Pocket PC 2000 devices.
