Marlof sent me a link to the Aidii web site for the "mystery" Pocket PC that I mentioned Wednesday.

Here is a mysterious Pocket PC visible at Chicago Comdex 2002. Computer Associates was using these in their demos of their mobile system administrator products. The funny thing is that the people doing the demonstrations where referring to them as iPAQs. So iPAQs are becoming Kleenex?
Anyway, when I looked at the back of these devices I saw PD-600C, which I believe is the same thing as UR There's @migo. Basically, I think this is the same device as the @migo with the button arrangements changed slightly. The casing is exactly the same, and it has the built-in PC Card slot.

Pocket PC Thoughts reports that Voicestream is now selling an iStream PC Card that works in Pocket PCs. This card is manufactured by Novatel Wireless and you can buy it direct from Novatel for $299. It doesn't appear to support voice.
What I really find interesting is that Novatel also sells the Merlin G100, which is a GSM/GPRS PC Card for AT&T Wireless. So, why does Novatel have to make different cards for the same wireless network technology?

The Sierra Wireless Aircard 555 provides CDMA voice and data access in North America. Data transfer can be over the old CDMA network at 14.4 speeds, or the new 1xRTT network at speeds around 50k. The 555 is shipping and current available with Verizon Wireless service.
Sierra Wireless will soon ship the Aircard 750, which provides voice and data communication over GSM and GPRS networks. The 750 is a tri-band card so it will work anywhere in the world. It will initially be sold for AT&T wireless service in the United States.

The previous posts (shown below) were originally entered directly on the Chicago Comdex exhibit show floor using my HP Jornada 565 and the Symbol Wireless Networker card. I didn't originally enter links, so I went back and edited the entries when I got home to add hyperlinks. The wireless service was provided by hereUAre, who had problems providing coverage in the media room on Tuesday because they didn't have an antenna for the access point in that room. The technician for hereUAre told me that they had the entire show floor covered with three access points. They could do that because the show floor is one big open space, and they had these big honking antennas. OTOH, the show floor wasn't exactly huge!

Checkpoint has a Pocket PC VPN client that works with their VPN gateways, though when I checked their web site I found no mention of Pocket PCs. Certicom is also here showing MovianVPN. Certicom is working with Cisco to get interop with Cisco's VPN Concentrator 7000. Certicom will probably be announcing a Pocket PC version of movianCrypt at CTIA.

I'll have more information here in the next couple of days. The two coolest things here are the Sierra Wireless Aircard 555 and Expand Beyond'sPocketDBA and Pocket Admin.

Hello from the show floor at Chicago Comdex. I finally got connected up to the wireless LAN on the floor. The access points in the media area don't have antennas so the coverage sucks. Note to service providers. You want to impress the media. Which means you want to make sure your product works in the media area.

infoSync : PPC power browsing I really got jazzed up when I first saw the link to this article. A new web browser for Pocket PCs, not from Microsoft. Cool! Unfortunately, while it does exist, it is currently only in a Japanese incarnation. Hopefully an English version of this app will appear some time down the road.
