PCWorld.com - PDA Makers Plan on Intel's XScale This article provides more detail about what PDA vendors have announced that they will be using the new XScale products. Included is this confusing paragraph:Casio Computer has plans to use the chip too, according to company spokesperson Kouichi Nishizawa. Casio was one of the first Japanese companies to produce Windows CE-based PDAs and will soon be launching one of the first machines based on Pocket PC 2002. While it has plans to begin using Intel's new chip in place of the StrongARM processors it currently uses, Nishizawa says the company has no detailed schedule yet.
The way that reads is suggests that the E-200 has not launched, yet I can walk to my nearest CompUSA and buy one. Either the writer botched this article, or Casio is working on a Pocket PC that I don't know about.

PDABuzz.com Discussion Forums - Audiovox Thera 1xRTT Pocket PC Phone exposed Check this out while you can. You will find pictures of a new Toshiba/Audivox Wireless Pocket PC. The pictures are via an FCC filing, much along the lines of how we first saw the Palm i705 and Handspring Treo.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the biggest issue here will be battery life.

PDABuzz.com Discussion Forums - Toshiba to Offer Enhanced PDA with New Intel Processor and Wireless Connectivity "Empowering the mobile customer with a powerful and lightweight productivity device with integrated wireless connectivity, the Computer Systems Group (CSG) of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. (TAIS) today announced its plans to introduce a robust, Pocket PC PDA powered by the Intel® PXA250 Applications Processor. The new handheld device will be available in Q'2, 2002." The PXA250 is the long-rumored 400 Mhz X-Scale processor.
The big Pocket PC news during 2002 will be about these integrated wireless devices, which I discuss a bit in the second edition of my book. So far we have heard what Handspring and Palm are doing with such devices, now it's time to hear from the Pocket PC camp. Will the Pocket PC devices blow the competition away?

Intel Introduces New Chips for Handheld Devices I think this article is about the next generation ARM processors commonly referred to as X-Scale. These would be the next generation of processors for Pocket PCs. My understanding is that the processor core is the same, meaning that programs currently running on Pocket PCs with ARM processors (which are all the new Pocket PC 2002 devices) will work on Pocket PCs with X-Scale processors.

One of the first programs that I install on my Pocket PC is Laridian's Pocket Bible. The New York Times has an article titled "Hot-Synching With a Heavenly Presence" [free registration required] that covers how various religios folks are using their Palm handhelds to deepen their spirituality. There is no mention of Pocket PCs. Heck, how could they miss the Pocket PC Pastor?

If you have ever had to hard reset your Pocket PC that syncs with two desktop PCs, you know that when the partnership is re-created it can lead to duplicate entries in Outlook. This morning both Pocket PC Thoughts and Pocket PC Passion have links to Outlook Duplicates Remover, which is a utility to delete duplicate entries in Microsoft Outlook. I haven't had a chance to try this out yet, but I am sure this is a good program to add to any Pocket PC user's toolbox.
