pocketnow.com - Review - Casio Computer Corporation's E-200 This is a very thorough review of the Casio E-200. It almost makes me want to run over to CompUSA and buy one.

Compu2go has posted a review of three Pocket PC outliners: DSRTch's Pocket Outliner, Developer One's Outaline, and Herbert Fann's Trenotes. I personally use Outlaline, but I don't like how it automatically expands everything every time you move an item.

For some reason I find something wrong with GoAmerica offerring a plan they call Go.Unlimited that has limitations. For example, one could take advantage of a $29.95 month HP rate that is limited to 500 Kb with .10 per Kb over 500. That's called Go.Unlimited?

Business 2.0 - Web Article - Microsoft's Wireless Road Ahead "With Pocket PC 2002, Microsoft has started to merge cell phones and handheld computers. What are we going to see in Pocket PC 2004 or 2006?
Your Pocket PC should be integrated with other devices. Microsoft Research is working on technologies to let you move seamlessly from the environment you have with your laptop or desktop or tablet PC to the environment you may have with your Pocket PC or mobile phone. You want to tie all those information sources together, make notifications work across all of them, and be able to adapt information to each device."

Wireless News -- Palm Takes Aim At The Enterprise With Acquisition I guess we now know what Palm is doing with part of that $50 million they got. It's hard to believe that a company bleeding cash like they are can afford an aquisition.

ZDNet: Tech Update: Notebook and Mobile / Pocket PC 2002 devices This is a good article from Gartner about the current crop of Pocket PC devices. The audience are corporations trying to decide which Pocket PC to buy. Gartner recommends either the HP Jornada or Compaq iPAQ.
There are a few minor flaws in the article. One is that they say only the Toshiba (and Audiovox) and Casio Pocket PC 2002 devices have dual slots, but the NEC MobilePro 300 will also have dual slots. And you will be able to add similar dual-slot functionality to the HP Jornada 565 and 568 via a extended battery with an integrated secure digital slot.l
Second the article says that there isn't a wide area network card available in the CompactFlash form, and that is wrong. Enfora's Pocket Spider is a CompactFlash CDPD modem that you can buy right now for Pocket PCs.

Jason writes some good comments about Pocket PC backups, and that we need the ability to schedule backups on Pocket PCs. Sprite Software has a beta of Pocket Backup, and I was under the impression that the final version will provide scheduling features.
The Emergency Backup feature available on the HP Jornada 565 and 568 already provides this functionality by backing up the Pocket Outlook data to the HP safestore. But, I wonder how many people are taking advantage of this feature? I know that I am not, and that I use HP safestore as an extra storage card for applications and themes.

It appears the soap opera that is the Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC 2002 upgrade has made another turn. Pocket PC Thoughts reports that Terminal Services Client and MSN Messenger will both be released for general download 1Q 2002. Kudos to Derek Brown at Microsoft for working through all the beaurocracy and getting the right thing done.

Pocket PC upgrade missing software - Tech News - CNET.com The Pocket PC 2002 upgrade issue is starting to blow up. If you aren't aware, people have begun to receive the Pocket PC 2002 upgrade for the Compaq iPAQ, and they are discovering that MSN Messenger and Terminal Services client are not included on the CD. Microsoft and Compaq have always said that many of the additional Pocket PC applications would not be in ROM, but they did say most of these apps, except for spell check and WAP, would be available as separate installs.
My take on this is that Microsoft expected Compaq to include these two apps, but that Compaq probably decided they didn't want to support the apps. Hence, they are not included on the upgrade CD from Compaq. That is probably leaving Microsoft wondering whether they want to make these applications available on their web site, and consequently have to support them.

I made another stop to the local toy store (aka Compusa) over the weekend and discovered that they have the Casio E200 in stock. When I checked their web site I found the E200 in stock at all Compusas in the Detroit area. I was disappointed that the Novi store that I was in did not have a display model. I haven't seen the E200 in person, and I am anxious to know whether it looks as cheap for real as it does in pictures.

I did a little looking around SanDisk Corporation's web site this morning, and I find it really frustrating. They list several CompactFlash storage cards, but they don't specify whether they are a Type I or Type II size. How is a person suppose to know whether they are getting the right card for their Pocket PC?
