One way to kill a little time is to head over to PocketThemes.com and pick out a new theme for your Pocket PC.

Now here is a cool idea. A video review of Tennis Addict. I think this is a great format for reviewing games because it gives you a chance to see the game play. What would be really cool is if you could take the video output straight from the Pocket PC and put it on the tape. <.Link via Pocket PC Thoughts>.

Jason fesses up and says that this Infoworld article is about him. Hey, they didn't get the facts right, but if the article makes it into the print edition, your wedding will be published in a nationwide paper. That's not bad.

Pocket to Palm I forgot to mention this PC Magazine article since I read it last week while traveling to U.P. for Thanksgiving. I think it does a decent job of comparing Palm and Pocket PC, and provides good recommendations on what to buy for personal use or business use.

PC Magazine Reviews Microsoft Reader 2.0 "The only way to go back and forth between, say, your Pocket PC and laptop is to use the Find feature to locate your last-read phrase." This is a nice blurb review of MS Reader 2. But I wonder how many people would switch between a Pocket PC and PC while reading the same book. I wouldn't think that to be a likely scenario.

allNetDevices: - GoAmerica Aims at Stranded Wireless Users See that drool coming out of GoAmerica's mouth? They can't wait for Omnisky to fold. I just wish GoAmerica would put all their energy into making a functioning SMTP server available to its users. I *still* cannot send out email using their service.

Just before I left for Thanksgiving I received Socket Communication's Bluetooth Kit. The kit includes a CompactFlash Bluetooth radio and the Pocket PC drivers. Last night was the first time I had a chance to install the card and try it with my Ericsson T28 Word Phone and the Ericsson DBA-10 Bluetooth module. The DBA-10 module is not listed as one of the supported devices, but I was able to establish a relationship between the Socket card and the module. It took a couple of tries for me to establish that connection and the trick was to set the module in discoverable mode so that the Socket card would find it. I also had to fire up the CDROM for the module to track down the passkey, which I need to enter on the phone and the Pocket PC in order to establish the relationship. The passkey is a security measure that is designed to prevent any Bluetooth radio from using a resource. I could turn that security feature off.

With the relationship established my next step was to configure an Internet connection to use the Bluetooth card. All I had to do was configure the modem connection to use the Bluetooth Phone. Next I started Internet Explorer and loaded a site. After a long period of time I saw the phone dial a connection to MSN and establish the connection, but I was not successful in actually opening a page. IE would just sit there. I tried Inbox, and it did an intial send and receive with no e-mail, but when I tried sending an e-mail it had showed the same problems as IE. I was able to ping sites and the responses showed 900+ ms responses, which is very slow.

I really suspect that this Bluetooth module does not work the best with the T28. I got the module along with the Ericsson Bluetooth headset and I was never able to get the headset to work properly. I could hear things on the headset with no problem, but everything that I said sounded horrible.

Detroit Free Press technology columnist Mike Wendland likes Pocket PC 2002, but his reasons are puzzling. For improvements he sites an easier user interface, more reliable and faster synchronization of Word documents and Excel spreadsheets. The UI improvement he cites is the X button, which Wendland says closes programs. It doesn't, it closes the program window, but the program is running. Microsoft significantly improved the memory management in Windows CE so that you don't see performance slow downs like in previous versions. I don't know what Wendland means about synchronization of Word and Excel documents, those seem to be exactly the same to me.

While reading Pocket PC Thoughts this morning I learned about a new MS Reader eBook store at Powells.com I have never heard about Powells, but they appear to have a nice selection of books. Which reminds me that I need to activate MS Reader on my HP 565.
