Many iPAQ owners are frustrated with dust in their screens. I had not personally seen the problem until a couple of weeks ago when a friend from Seattle visited and showed me his iPAQ. I've managed to keep my iPAQ, which is one of the originals dust free. To do that I never take the stylus out of the stylus holder. That is not a big problem with me because I prefer to use one of the many alternative stlyuses such as the Dr. Grip Pilot Pentopia.

Pocket PC gains on Palm in Europe - Tech News - CNET.com Maybe Microsoft ought to promote their European market share numbers. Pocket PCs (only HP and Compaq) have 31% of the European market to Palm's 55%. Of course, one has to ask what the size of that market is. I think HP and Compaq would be even happier if they had 31% of the Asian market. The article suggests that the main reason why Pocket PC has more of the market in Europe is due to more corporate sales.

Stardock: Object Desktop - PocketBlinds I've tried the PocketBlinds beta on an iPAQ, and it is very rough. Right now I don't see any to be very excited over since the only thing that changes is the navigation bar.

Unwired-I.Net - Arne's Unwired Internet Diary Arne has been running a poll on his site asking which wireless Internet method you prefer. After two days running the poll is showing that people either want an integrated pda and mobile phone (37%) or a PDA with a data card (31%). Arne is wondering why the web phone option (aka Stinger) is running so low at 10%. That is probably because until Stinger is actually out people really don't know what to expect. Since most have PDAs right now it is easier to visuallize an integrated pda and mobile phone. At least that is my theory.

allNetDevices: - New Releases Turning Handheld World on Its Ear Dave Haskin has been consistenly wrong about Microsoft's handheld efforts, and he will be wrong in what he writes here. I don't anticipate any Pocket PC OEM coming out with a monochrome device that competes with any of the monochrome Palm OS devices. They don't seem to be interested in taking this approach to wrestle larger chunks of market share away from Palm. In fact, I don't even think they are committed to over taking Palm's market share. Microsoft is really limited in what it can do in this market share battle, unless it were to manufacture its own device like Palm does. BTW, why is it that none of the pundits point out the fact that there is a relationship between Palm making their own hardware and their market share.

Palm Won't Hand It to Microsoft "If you compare the size of the PDA market to the cellular phone market -- you can't compare apples and oranges. So although Palm has the PDA market, most of the world has not yet moved to PDAs. But a lot of them are using PCs and chances are they are using Microsoft on their PCs." Which is why Stinger is so important to Microsoft. I don't Microsoft expects to overtake Palm in the PDA market, but they are striving to win the integrated cell phone market.

The big news today is the release of HanDBase from DDH Software. This is the first significant Palm OS application ported to the Pocket PC. I have written a review that you can read at Brighthand.
Brighthand's Palm OS Editor, Jen Edwards, interviewed DDH CEO David Haupert.

Just when I thought BoomChick! was a cool name for a program, Jason out does it with this great link title: "smaller goes over the edge." It's a link to a review at smaller.com for the new Visor Edge handheld. Good one Jason, mark one up for the Canadian.

Windows CE Music Software - BoomChick! I think that this program ought to get an award for the best name. One guess as to what it is.

Pocket PC Thoughts - News, Views, Rants & Raves Jason has the link to the Pocket Blinds beta, not to mention other cool stuff. But that ColorMe screen shot is painful!

Compaq introduces 64MB iPaq handheld "The 64MB one is really targeted at an enterprise audience because they are going to need that (much) more memory," Compaq spokeswoman Nora Hahn said" So the iPAQ 3670 is not targeted at consumers, which gives a little explaination to the price.

MobilePlanet is now selling a new Pocket PC from Intermec, which they simply call the P70. It is a 16 MB grayscale device that is priced at $450. That's probably a little bit higher than what most people would want, but I think Intermec targets their devices for vertical markets which tend to be willing to pay a little more for a device. BTW, I am typing this using an Intermec 6651 Handheld PC, which is simply the most elegant handheld that I have ever used.
