Time to take a break. Tomorrow morning my wife and I are heading to Norway, Michigan to spend Thanksgiving with my family. It has been a while since I have been home, so I am looking forward to the trip. Unfortunately I have a sinus infection that is giving me grief, and I am afraid Ruth has caught the cold I was slugging around with last week. But despite all of this, tomorrow morning we are packing the car and embarking on a 9 hour tour through northern Michigan. During the next five days or so I will be away from computers, and I am afraid not updating this site. While I am gone I direct you to Jason Dunn's site... Canadians already enjoyed their Thanksgiving so I am sure he will be busy posting away through the holidays. And who knows, maybe by the time I am back we'll even know who the next President will be?! See you all on November 28.

An Open Letter to Microsoft Jeff Kirvin has been writing about writing on handheld devices for a year, and recently switched from a Handspring Visor to a HP Jornada Pocket PC. While Jeff is happy with the Pocket PC, it can be better. Jeff correctly identifies what I would call the Pocket PC dilema. Clearly the changes made to the Pocket PC were done to make them work more like Palm. When you are chasing a market leader, matching the features of that leader makes sense. However, in the process of designing the Pocket PC there are several puzzling decisions made by Microsoft that in many ways make the latests devices weaker than their previous incarnations. The dilema is to make the Pocket PCs easier to use than the Palm-size PCs, while not losing the advantages that the Palm-size PCs had.
