Comdex Panel Debates the Future of Handheld Digital Devices Two observations from this article. First, where was Microsoft? Second, it would seem that the panelists, all of whom are competitors of Microsoft, agree with Microsoft's strategy of multiple devices. Though they certainly would not come right out and say that.

Proxim Introduces the World's First Compact Flash Wireless Adapter This sounds very interesting. I wonder when it will become available for us non-OEMs? When it goes up for sale I may be first in line to get it... this would enable me to use any Windows CE device in the house wirelessly!

ZDNet: Comdex: News: Comdex: Gates unveils Tablet PC As expected, Bill Gate's keynote last night focused on the Tablet PC. What does that mean for Pocket and Handheld PCs? Who knows.. my take right now is that the Tablet PC will be marketed as a notebook alternative. All of the specs are similar to notebooks. The operating system is Whistler not CE. My guess is that the inking and Transcriber technologies in the Pocket PC are going to be ported to this device.
What does this mean for Pocket and Handheld PCs? My guess is that these devices will continue to exist, which is consistent with Microsoft's "Any Device, Any Time, Any Where" message. The one important thing that I see in the Tablet PC message is a close coupling of Microsoft's .NET strategy with portable devices. In Microsoft's vision of future computing, .NET is a key enabler for making these mobile devices work.
